I am writing this referral on behalf of my wife Katie and myself. We have an investment property in Brisbane and prior to Michael and Vera’s intervention it was a run down 3

bedroom, post war dump. There weren’t many qualities worth retaining and we had toyed with the idea of completely demolishing it. We went through many options prior to engaging with any prospective builders but a few “must have’s” in a builder became obvious. Katie and I live in Perth so the builder would have to work in conjunction with a designer to achieve desired results.

They would also have to manage the project and work with sub-contractors to complete the stages of the build.

The builder would have to work within a budget to achieve a house with street appeal, modern interior and fixtures, extension to include but not limited to another bed and bathroom, extra garage, modern kitchen and achieve it all without making it look like an add on.

They would also have to plan and submit for approval the above requests all the while fitting the design into the suburb without making it look out of place.

Planning would have to include energy efficiency rating and all of the other nebulous nit-picking issues that the council require.

Katie and I realised that this was a tough ask as our budget had allowed for no over capitalization as we wanted this house for a rental post build but we wanted all of the

conveniences of a modern house that we would want to live in ourselves. That’s enough of the demanding customer spiel.

We settled on designer homes because of the one stop package they provided. We had one meeting at the house with Michael and Vera and loved the ideas they had proposed. They had said they could commit to what we had requested and also provided valuable feedback on ideas that we hadn’t even entertained or thought of. They produced a plan with quick council approval that ticked all of the boxes and retained some of the qualities of the old house.

The stages of the build were completed extremely quickly and were all worked around decisions made via e-mail or phone correspondence. Building via correspondence had it issues and any problems were always at our end. The team worked around these issues with no effect to the end result.

At lock up the house was exceptional. Katie and I had one problem – we had to finish the landscaping around the house prior to advertising for tenants. The landscapers we had employed were nothing short of incompetent. This delayed the tenancy. The house was advertised early prior to landscape completion and tenants actually moved in prior to the landscape completion because they were so impressed with the finish of the house. Michael took it upon himself to project manage the landscaping until completion. For this we were so grateful.

The project was expertly finished and Katie and I had a modern 4×2 with double garage, tenanted that not only satisfied our needs but was finished with quality workmanship, modern appliances and above all was completed efficiently and within time constraints.

In finishing – for something Katie and I thought would be daunting, Designer Homes made our virgin renovating experience a pleasure.

2011/2012, to add the room we needed for our growing family and business. The renovation doubled the size of our already large home, moved our Laundry and internal staircase, and was carried out while we lived inside, with 3 young children, including our 1 year old son.
